During the week of Aug. 26 to Sept. 1, Hawaii Island police arrested 19 motorists for DUI.
Seven of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident, and none were younger than 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Hilo, eight; Kona, five; Puna, four; and North Kohala, two.
So far this year, there have been 655 DUI arrests compared to 652 during the same period last year, an increase of 0.5%.
There have been 669 major crashes so far this year, compared to 564 during the same time last year, an increase of 18.6%.
To date, there have been 22 official traffic fatalities, compared to 11 fatalities for the same time last year, an increase of 100%.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
